I am 25 now, but back when I was four years old I had bladder corrective surgery. A common surgery for kids, it was a complete success and I have had zero issues the past 21 years. However, one kidney is slightly smaller than the other (from the issue pre-surgery). This has not caused any issues since the surgery, in fact my kidney tests have always come back completely normal. So without an ultrasound, no one knows I have one smaller kidney and one regular one. Should I even report this to meps?

My only issue is that asymmetry of the kidneys or abnormal function requires a waiver (my function is normal). Considering I am applying for NFO with the navy, that would require a waiver with the navy in general and then with NAMI as well to fly. I would hate for a non-issue from 21 years ago to stop me from trying to become an NFO. Would getting a Top Secret clearance reveal this?

I would report the condition. While you may not have a problem now I wonder if it’s possible such a condition could be negatively effected by the job you want? I’m no doctor nor am I familiar with the issues with the job. Your life is more important than the job you want. Let the doctors make the call.

Step 1/2. Tell your recruiter and bring him a copy of the records.
