That could be said for anyone, real short hair is easier but it is more common with military men and is cut much shorter generally than regulations.

When my nephew got out of the military, he kept the haircut I think more out of habit then anything else, he was just comfortable that way.

The thing that changed him I think was the woman he married, I think she preferred it a little longer. He has thick wavy hair and she wanted to run her fingers through it.

Retired this year but I wear a shaved head via a #2 blade. After retirement I started to feel old but somehow a haircut helped me feel young/connected and strong. In addition, its easier to take care of and it shows support.

Ya I think this would be the main reason to keep it buzzed.

let me esplain you, my aging barber since passed on sort of lost it 1 day, he just ran the razor over 1/2 back of my head and left it like that.
so i went to walmart and got a 10 dollar set of clippers and did the buzz myself ever since.
women prefer it get lots of complilments and i saved a bundle.
dad did the same he was the marine not me.

Aboard ship the same reason-ease of care. And, at least 30 years ago, salt water showers.

Sigh..always wore my hair short as a kid, in the USAF and now as an old retiree. But I still love Crosby, Stills & Nash's "Almost Cut My Hair". Talk about cognative dissonance...

In fact, Crew Chief..Most women today tend to prefer men with short hair or their heads shaved. It is indeed interesting how times have changed.

Funny thing though I had more hair in the Corps than I do now..on the top, that is, lol
However, that doesn't explain why guys will continue to keep it short even after leaving the service. Convenience explains it pretty well.

I just cut my hair the other day. It's getting too hot to have long or thick hair--it was simply time to cut it again. Plus, if my hair has any real length to it, it starts curling up on itself and I despise curly hair.

The reason I always wore my hair shorter than regulation stated was because It wasn't good enough to just to meet the standard, I was trying to exceed the standard. This attitude is what sets many soldiers apart. It is something that has stuck with me into my civilian life and what I consider to be my most valuable lesson learned.
