Found this site and used it to write about some personal experiences of my time in the Navy. The first thing I wrote and posted was about Desert Storm. sailorbordelon
Seems like such a long time ago....but then it seems as if it were yesterday. Many remember what they were doing when JFK was shot, OJ acquitted, what they were doing on 9/11 etc.... I remember where I was on that day...way back in 1990, summer was about to wind down...well before the world knew....the messages were going across all bases. I was in NBC back then and at our briefing I could just feel my heart sink...this was the real deal.
I was on the USS Sylvania, during...not quite sure of the timeline...Ah, yes, 1990 they decommissioned the carrier I HAD been on. Had it survived, it would have very likely seen combat missions in the Gulf. We were called to action when Lt. Col. Higgins was a "guest" of the Libyans, prior to that. After it was over, I accepted one of the "early outs" they were offering to people, to buy out our enlistments and downsize our military forces.
Several of the crewmembers who left at about the same time agreed that we had no business in Iraq back then either.
