Also, maybe the city could use a portion of the profits from the casino to pay off the Target Center debt and all those city pensions that are screwing up the budget and maybe keep our property taxes down a little bit? Just a thought.

Good thought, but it can't be privately owned then and the developer would want massive subsidies.

Ever been to Rice park in St. Paul on a beautiful summer day? It's wonderful. Downtown Minneapolis has a serious lack of green space.
Good idea, are you going to pay for that?

Downtown Minneapolis already has a proposal for park space near the library. This location is too prime to waste on a park.

A park proposal for Block E doesn't make sense to me. One of the biggest attractions of Rice Park in DT St. Paul is the aesthetic quality of the buildings lining the park: Landmark Center, The St Paul Hotel, the St Paul Public Library & (to a lesser degree) The Ordway Center all flank the park. These are all attractive buildings.

Let's consider what flanks Block E:

City Center, Target Center, First Avenue. All very bland, if not downright ugly buildings. Much as I like 1st Ave, its not Landmark Center. The only nice looking buildings would be Henn Ctr for the Arts and Glueks.

I'm fairly neutral to the concept of a casino. I'd like some other use--maybe a Best Buy store?? But the design of Block E is limiting.
I'd be supportive of a casino if the City could receive a portion of the tax proceeds (paying for an upgraded Target Center would be a good use of $ and would further add to the vitality of the area).

Yeah I have mixed feelings too. Its got to be top of the line and revenue needs to come back to the city. I also think it would have to be a 21 and up spot. If it is done right it could make Hennepin ave a nice destination to visit.
