Hey all.

I was wondering which metro area you think is better to live in. Minneapolis or Atlanta??? Me and my wife have been comparing a bunch of cities to move to and we cant decide between Atlanta or Minneapolis

A little bit about us.
We are young social people who just graduated from College. We love the City Life with alot around and alot to do however we like a nice outdoorsy vacation area close by to escape home.

I know if you lived in Minneapolis you could just drive up to northern Minnesota and go boating on the lakes or go to Wisconsin Dells. However im not to sure about vacationing around Atlanta. All i know is the Smokey Mountains to the North and the Ocean to the east

I would say Atlanta is better in terms of proximity to different recreation (mountains, ocean, east coast), but I feel the quality of life is better in the twin cities. We have less crime, less traffic, beautiful lakes and parks, and a better economy. There is just an ease to living here that you don't quite find in Atlanta. This is coming from my own observations combined with my Uncle's opinion, and he lives in Atlanta.

Default Formerly from Atlanta

I am in the midst of moving to the Minneapolis area from New York. However, I am originally from the Atlanta suburbs. There is much to do in Atlanta, in the city as well as the suburbs. There are many lakes around, (of course not near as many as Minnesota), but boating is a big sport in the area. If you are in to history, there is an abundance of places to visit all over the state but especially around Atlanta. The Blue Ridge Mountains are stunning. I attended college in Dahlonega which is nestled in the mountains of North Georgia. You would be hard pressed to find a prettier place. Turner Stadium where the Braves play is always awesome to catch a game. The shopping is fantastic as well.

The biggest drawback for me to living in Atlanta is the heat. The summers are hot, humid and sticky. I don't miss that at all. I don't like stepping out of a building and immediately breaking out in sweat. This usually starts in May and lasts through September. Traffic leaves a lot to be desired too, but after living in NY, I hesitate to complain about traffic anywhere else! LOL

If you have questions about specific areas, please don't hesitate to ask.

I spent the first 41 years of my life in the Twin Cities, and I've been in the Atlanta metro now for over six years.

I would choose the Twin Cities (not Minneapolis per se as I'm a suburbanite), but Atlanta is more competitive than some might think.
