I've noticed since I got rid of my car that I experience the city around me in a totally different way. You see all the little details in the city and also in the society. You interact with people more. In general it is a much richer experience, although it also tends to shrink your world.

Agreed. When I am on my bike or walking around, I get a real feel for everything around me much more so than when I'm driving. Part of it is that when I'm on my bike or walking, I'm
not in a giant steel machine capable going at a decent speed with the ability to kill.
I certainly enjoy having a car because Minneapolis is
not the most car-free friendly, but it's certainly good enough to rely on at most times of the day, especially working hours. They definitely need to work on nighttime, though. Too many buses have horrible arrival intervals and then shut down too early.
