I'm just wondering if there're any places remarkably far away from which you can see the city.

You can see it from Lexington Avenue, just north of Diffley road, in Eagan. I think that is the furthest away I have see it from the south.

I have seen it both from out by Stonebrook Golf Course south of Shakopee and from the new Hwy 212 straight west of Chaska. That has to be at least 35 miles.

I love the view from 35W in Burnsville at the highway 13 interchange on a clear day. I just enjoy seeing 35W snake across the landscape towards downtown.

These days, all I see is the Atlanta skyline, which is a site to behold from far away, as well.

The view on 35W approaching Minneapolis from the North just after 36.

I've seen pictures of Atlanta from Stone Mountain and it sure looks pretty awesome!

Flying doesn't count.

The skyline is fairly easy to see at Hennepin County's highest point - The intersection of Territorial Road and Main Street in Rogers.

You can't really see it here but this is the vantage point. It looks incredible on a clear day.
Rogers, Hennepin, Minnesota - Google Maps

Also, one can see the skyline in Arden Hills pretty easily on a clear day.

I thought the highest point in the county was near High Point Court right by my parents house off Williston Road in Minnetonka:

Fast Facts About Hennepin — Hennepin County, Minnesota

There used to be a stone bench up there 40 years ago.
