I am looking to buy a house in either the STMA or Rogers Area. A huge factor would be schools. I want a relatively easy commute to the cities but work in Elk River. Looking for Family centered neighborhoods, 4bed 3 bath spending around 300k. Does anyone have suggestions about these communities? Comparing them? The schools? Thanks.

I think that STMA has a bit better schools, maybe a point or two higher, but otherwise the towns are pretty similar. Rogers is going to be "busier" with the traffic from 94. STMA has a brand new high school I think too. Either would be fine really.

STMA's High School is the biggest in the State of Minnesota. It's awesome. State of the Art.
Elk River sucks
Rogers has a newer HS, but definitely not as cool as STMA's.

STMA has 2 new elementary schools and a pretty new Middle School. There are two Middle schools (6-8), East and West, West Middle being the "old" HS that was built in 1992 and East Middle school being built in 2000.

There are 3 elementary schools, grades (1-5) - Big Woods, built in 2004 I think, Field Stone, built in 2008 I think and St. Michael Elementary, built in 1966 I think.

There is a primary school in Albertville for all Kindegarten

In reviewing Greatschools.org it seems like rogers schools rank a bit higher in the lower grades?

Can anyone comment on the feel of the communities and the schools? Is there a lot of competition to get into sports etc. The keeping up with the joneses feel?

I like that Rogers seems to have all the commerce you would need-target-Is traffic horrible?

What about Otsego?

They are pretty small towns. Driving through you will get a good feel for where you do or don't want to live. We don't really have many posters here that live in those towns so you probably won't get very specific neighborhood information, sorry. Your realtor will know if you get one from that area though.
