Ok, and I would agree. However, to be clear, I'm not saying Chicago is necessarily planned "well" but just that it is very "planned." Illinois loves plans and Chicago does even more. Also, in Chicago there is a lot of civic involvement in regards to even minor urban development. Whereas in the Twin Cities most seem pretty apathetic about such things aside from sports stadiums.

Interesting take rzzzz. Yes, Chicago has far more plans, restrictions, codes etc. It just seems at a larger scale the whole area is not developed smartly.

I can't vouch for everywhere, but I know this is true in comparison to Cleveland!

My guess its because of threads like this that MSP is ranked the 4th snobbiest metro area in the nation.

An entire thread dedicated to how much more "civilized" MSP is than all the other metros. A real ego booster.

Yes, there are social problems but no as many as most larger metro areas. Generally I find the quality of the people to be better than nearly anyplace else in America. The typical person in the greater TC Metro area are:

Friendly
Hard Working
Educated
Good Neighbors
Good Drivers
Professional at work
Take care of their homes
Committed to working towards good government and schools
Moral, and considerate

There are other places with a high percentage of people who display these good traits but there are more of them as a percentage of the population in the Twin Cities than nearly any other place in America.

Do you agree?

Interesting take by the OP, but I've never heard anyone mention this as a reason to live here. The main reasons I see/hear are (in no particular order):
-Summer/early fall is so great that it overshadows the winter
-Family lives here
-Decent cost of living
-Fewer dangerous weather events (tornadoes and blizzards are as bad as it gets here)
-Nice people (few people like a stereotypical New Yorker)
-Safe (I suppose this is related to civilized, but it's not quite the same)

To some people passion and caring about their metro area = snobby. I disagree. I call it pride and continued involvement in making the metro area a good place to live. I acknowledge and respect your opinion, but disagree. The people in the Twin Cities deserve respect for making a place with weather that is sometimes challenging with chilly winters a good place to live. We agree to disagree!

Self congradulatory? Check. Entitled? Check. Pride generated from comparing yourselves to others and declaring yourselves superior? Check. Sounds a lot like snobbishness to me.

So the people in Minnesota who like their neighbors and are proud of their community are snobs?
