Hi all,

I am traveling to Portland, OR from Baltimore, MD via Greyhound bus and I am using Minneapolis as my halfway point rest/recharge. I will only have about 8 hours to explore, and since I have never been there before I am looking for the most "bang for my buck" - if you were to recommend "must sees" for a very short stay in Minneapolis, what would they be?

Thanks in advance!

Many out of towners want to see Mall of America. Light rail takes you there from either Mpls or St Paul. I'd look at taking Amtrak from here to Portland, we did it a few years ago. Second half is awesome once you get to Glacier National Park until Portland.

Alaska runs 6 hour direct nonstop flights from BWI - PDX for the same price as the 70 hour Greyhound slog. Scenery along big chunks of that trip is not stellar.

The historic mill area near the Guthrie theater is a nice place to look around. Perhaps you can rent a green Nice Ride bike and ride along with Mississippi River. I assume you would want to get out and get some exercise.

I've had the tickets since April. My wife is doing that flight, and I will be doing it back. Booking that far in advance, my ticket was actually significantly cheaper than even a one way flight from Baltimore to Portland.

Thanks for letting me know about the bikes! I explored Indianapolis a few years back that way and it was a great experience.

What time of year? What part of the day?

Agree that taking a bike ride along the river, maybe down to Minnihaha Falls and back or the Mill District is great, weather permitting.

Stop at Sea Salt at Minnehaha Falls Park for lunch or dinner.

If it were me, assuming the weather is decent.....I would check out Lake Harriet/Calhoun/lake of the isles. Rent a paddle board, grab some food in uptown, then head back to the station. When at the lakes, consider checking out Sebastian Joe's (linden hills), Rustica for a cookie, punch pizza for some food. Take the trolley between Harriet and Calhoun. The people/mansion watching is great, you get some exercise, and the view of the lake with the skyline in the background is awesome
