Yesterday the wife and I decided to get out and check out a different part of town for lunch so we drove over to Frogtown in St. Paul. As I was driving down University Ave I noticed a ton of interesting looking little restaurants and shops. We ended up eating at a fried fish and philly steak restaurant which was really greasy but actually pretty good. I think the restaurant was called Fire and Ice, although it doesn't exist on google maps (nor does anything in Frogtown really) which brings me to my question. Has anyone on here found any cool restaurants or shops in this area and if so what are they? From looking at City Pages it looks like there are alot of hidden treasures there and everything seems to be dirt cheap, which I like. I was wondering what everyone's experiences were.

Slig--Try Cafe Ngon on University Ave. Good stuff. An good old reliable standby is Mai Village, also on University. Both are Vietnamese, but Ngon is less traditional. I'm also partial to the White Castle at Univ & Lex, but I have diverse tastes!

Yeah, I've been to that White Castle before. I highly recommend it at the spur of the moment, but it gets two thumbs down for how it makes me feel the next day. I'll definitely have to check out those two restaurants. If they are anything like Quang on 28th and Nicollet than I won't be disappointed.

Not quite in Frogtown but the Subway inside the Wal-Mart off University and Snelling is FANTASTIC! It also has a great view of some shady looking folks going through the entrance and exit. Can't beat the smell either.

So, the only good places to eat in Frogtown are fast food joints?
