Dylan over the long-term. Although Prince's following has been large and consistent for the last 25 years or so I'd argue that his popularity was much larger and more concentrated during a 3-4 year period in the mid 80's (The Purple Rain era). Anyways, I can't really say which is better as they are so different. I have immense respect for both artists.

Default Dylan & Minnesota

When I drove my daughter to school out there a few years ago, we crossed the river at La Crosse, WI, and drove up the river. I had a little shock of nostalgia when I realized we were on Highway 61. And an hour later we drove past the walls of Red Wing.

I like them both but Prince's songs are a little more upbeat. Too bad He has it blocked on Youtube.

Personally, I have never really listened to Bob Dylan. I have listened to Prince. I like the Purple Rain movie. Another lesser known song I like is Pink Cashmere.

Personally I like Dylan's lyrics but his voice grates on my nerves. Prince was part of my adolescence, so I'm fonder of him.

When Johnny Cash first met Bob Dylan, Cash walked up to him, stuck out his hand for a hand shake.

Dylan, making eye contact did not respond, instead walked completely around Cash, looking him from head to toe, came face to face again and said, "You're allright man".

That is how the first meeting of these two great men went down.

I believe the quote was something to the affect of... "You're a big man!"

Christopher Wren on Dylan meeting Cash...

In 1963, Cash was in New York, and went down to Greenwich Village to listen to Peter LaFarge sing his first Indian protest songs at the Gaslight café.

Backstage Johnny Cash ran into Bob Dylan. "I'd gotten some letters from John about my work, which knocked me out," says Dylan who had followed Cash since his early records. "He came down to the Gaslight and that's where I first saw him. I was struck by how tall he was. I didn't imagine him being that tall, by his album covers. He was dressed in black, with a white shirt. I saw him again at Newport. He gave me his guitar, and (sic) old Martin. I still got it."
