Mississippi has the lowest homeless rate in the nation.

https://www.usich.gov/tools-for-action/map/#fn[]=1400&fn[]=3100&fn[]=6300&fn[]=10400&fn[]=13200&all_types=true&homeless_rate=true&year=2016 &state=MS

The above site will give all the numbers. There are several different sources and everything I have seen shows Mississippi has fewer - far fewer - homeless people per 100,000 then most other states.

Mississippi shows 56 per 100,000. The national average is 495. Washington, DC is about 1100 per 100,000

I've never actually seen a homeless person in Mississippi.

You shouldn’t post stuff like the above. The homeless in DC will see those numbers on their smart phones and next thing you know they will be every where.

There are several in downtown Jackson, some sleep under that tracks at Capitol/Mill St., some sleep in Smith Park and some sleep in the never opened storefronts along Farish St and of course the population that lives in shelters. There is also a sizeable population on the coast, mostly around Gulfport. That's all I know of in the 'Sip.

Well, that is some good news. Having the lowest homeless rate in the nation sounds like a good and positive thing and something to be proud of. Congratulations, Mississippi!!

No longer can it be said that Mississippi never comes in first place in something good.

That makes a lot of sense, since it also has the lowest cost of living in the country. In states like ours with the highest cost of living, people who can’t afford it still move or stay here, so we have one of the highest homeless populations.

In those areas and, in Jackson, the Gallatin Street area down around where I-20 passes over Gallatin there typically have been a decent number of homeless staying around that bridge or in the woods nearby. Gallatin as a whole is popular because that is where some of the homeless services in Jackson are.

I appreciate that, but there is no part of MS I'd want to live in.

Oh, I could ply you with enough southern bourbon and a weekend in Oxford and it'd charm the socks off of you. You'd fall squarely in the "velvet ditch" just like everyone else does.

Speaking of Oxford (I'm a big fan of the town and have several close friends in the area) on a recent bid'niss trip we went out of our way to eat a Big Bad Breakfast. It was a huge letdown! From the way people talk, we were expecting to have our socks blown off, quite the contrary, very average and three times what one would pay for a better breakfast at ****** Barrell.

Sorry, getting back on track now....
