The Missouri River is flooding upstream. Water is being released from dams on the Yellowstone River at record rates and the Dakotas are in the early stages of flooding that could last through July. Their reservoirs and dams are also releasing water at record rates. Record snowpack in the Rockies and the snowmelt are yet to make their contribution to rising water levels.

Will massive flooding beyond what SE MO has already suffered add more insult to the injury of natural disasters for our state this year?

Is your community making preparations?

Something to think about for those of us who remember 1993 but all too clearly.

I hope not either but I believe there is a real chance.

Here is the forcast for upstream:
Another "Great Flood": Missouri River - weather.com

A prediction for this weekend on the West side of Missouri:
Missouri River levels cause flood concerns | Kansas City Business Journal

and at Jefferson City:
Missouri River will top flood stage this weekend | News Tribune

With the Mississippi already at or near flood stages at St. Louis what happens when the swollen Missouri begins to back-up? I was in St. Louis the weekend that happened in 1993. Then The Missouri became what Mark Twain termed 'the one banked river".

I don't think it will I've seen many floods on the Missouri River in over 50 years and helped with evacuation in '93.Since then the COE has made changes to where the water will spread out before causing too much trouble.

Hope you are correct. The Corps. appears to be exercising great concern.

If that comes to pass, New Town will be flooded, the land on which it sits was flooded back in 93.
One of my cousins had a house quite close to New Town (St Charles, Boschertown area), the water was over her house entirely, it was awful.
We were hauling stuff out of her house by boat 4th of July weekend, at one point, the water was coming up an inch every 20 minutes.....right after that was over with, I went downstream to sand bag at Ste Gen.
Once a river rat, always a river rat, I suppose.

Thank you for the updates lifelong, I'm definitely keeping an eye on all of this and getting a bit nervous. We're not in a situation to be particularly affected, but I remember the flood in '93 with a clarity unlike the rest of my memory from that age, and it's sure something I don't want to see repeated.
