Default Mountain Grove, MO information

Anyone out there familiar with the current status of Mountain Grove? I read an April post about some older gang folks trying to protect kids from trailer trash? Is there that much of a problem with the Mountain Grove area? We are considering different areas of MO, and Mountain Grove is one of them. However, we would live out in the country away from any town we are close to, but it's good to know what goes on in the town as far as crime, drugs, etc. Any comments would be appreciated.

First off i gotta say i've never heard of reformed gang members trying to help save kids from the "trailer trash". we dont have gangs or alot of the drugs like the larger city's do. the hardest drug would be pot thats pretty much it. i'm 18(almost 19) so unlike alot of the older generations i actually know what goes on in grove lol sorry if that offends some people. the only thing thats happened lately that an outsider could label as "gang" would be a few months ago when a few teenagers thought they'd show how bad they were and spray painted a lot of stuff in town. i personally know one of them and they realized it was extremely stupid thing to do they just realized it too late. that's the only thing that has happened. so i dont know who's starting rumors about grove having gangs but they're wrong.

Igloo, older gang folks trying to protect kids from trailer trash? I've never heard of such a thing. This interests me though, I'd like to hear more. I know several people from the area, and from what I can tell, it seems to be a place with decent hardworking people--incredible views--close to Springfield and thus, shopping--right in the middle of bluegrass country--heck, I'm ready to move there myself. Too bad I'm stuck in the city. I'd say you can move there with no qualms.

To the poster that said the hardest drug is pot, I have to disagree. I'm from the general area, which has large problems with meth. Granted its not something you'll run into problems related to, and while the area may seem like Mayberry, the stuff is underneath the surface (and you'll find problems with drugs in any rural area, it is not unique to Mtn. Grove or MO.

As far as the area goes in general, it is rural, very scenic (especially just south of Mountain Grove in Douglas County), and I wouldn't worry about crime or drugs in general. I grew up in a neighboring town, and our mailbox got bashed a few times (bored kids), but you can leave your door unlocked and the keys in the ignition of your car when you go in a store without worry (although since I've been living in cities I always lock everything now!).

I live bout 30 miles from Mountian Grove....and have NEVER heard of the "gangs" there...its almost unheard of in this part of the country. Life is different in the rurals of southern MO....not like big city life.

My opinion...but I wouldn't worry to much about the gang life here........LOL
Have you considered living a bit away...check out the Hartville, Mansfield area....its BEAUTIFUL...just a hop skip and jump from MG and Springfield..Just a thought
