Ugh, 30 -45 minute commute times = not a good "quality of life".

Coast Guard base is at South Broad. We've had several captains who live in Oakleigh Garden District. Try there or midtown (areas spreading out north and south of Dauphin St).

I am starting a job at Dauphin Island and I am looking for a place to live. I don't really want to live on the island but if is a significant price difference in rent, I will. Do you have any suggestions on where to live on Dauphin Island or in Mobile. I am looking for a one bedroom, for about 1 year, and I am really concerned about being in a safe area. I would like to live in or near Midtown but I heard it is not very safe. I would also like to be closer to work. Thanks!
