I am 25 an would like to become a welder at a shipyard in mobile area. I mig weld at my job now. I love welding I'm laid off from my other job at heil build garbage truck bodies worked 70-90 hrs a week welding. But I know I would have to go through the aidt training for shipyards cause I have no experience. My main question is though do the ship yards hire people with a criminal back ground? I have a few felonies and couple misdemeanors BUT I was never convicted they all was dropped or dismissed thankfully. But now all of a sudden that's hurting me at some real good jobs because I guess their assuming I ve been convicted when I never have. I'm registered to vote an can vote so I don't know what the problem is. But I'd really like to become a welder at a shipyard I just want to work and work everyday all the time. Does anyone know? Or could help/guide in the way of what I need to do. Thank you

I think as long as you have welding experience it shouldn't matter. There are other non ship yard related welding jobs in the city such as Mitterknight ,Technip,Progress Rail , Legacy Industrial , Ameri Force , CTR Corporation ,Tradesmen International and etc.
