Parks in west Mobile include the Municipal Park, which is also the location of the Museum of Art. There are several other smaller parks that are primarily ball fields and some walking trails/tracks.

Welcome to the city and I hope you enjoy exploring and learning more about what Mobile and surrounding areas have to offer.

there's a trampoline park in west mobile, I believe. also, check out the university of south alabama's nature trails! they're so much fun to explore and to observe nature! they have a few paths to take so just pick them and take the kids. it's an easy and free way to entertain the kids. also, they have laser tag in west mobile!

Thanks a lot guys for the info, we have been to the Municipal park (it is called Langan I think) and the kids loved it.

We are going to try visiting New Orleans this week.

I have noted all the excellent suggestions for downtown and will give it a go, Thanks again.

Some of the souths racist ideals have been warranted. I actually went to high school at Daphne high with a young Muslim Omar Hammimmi that moved to the middle east and took up terrorism. Not to knock you but as long as you keep an open mind to people you may perceive as racist then you'll be fine without trying to change everything like many New Yorkers attempt to do "leave any attitude at the mason dixon line and cross with an open mind". Many don't want the culture to change in the south and rightfully so, people in the south look out for each other, help neighbors, usually go to church, and many of the rednecks that many outside the south deem racist would gladly give you the shirts off their backs.

Instead of thinking what a place has to offer, ask yourself what can you contribute to it making it a great place. Your family sounds really nice and I think yall will fit in well if you don't like the big city atmosphere. Another added bonus is your a couple hours drive to Destin, the Casinos have big Vegas shows periodically, and a half days drive to Disney if your kids are small. There is also Atlanta within half a days drive and they have the Braves, Coke HQ, CNN, and an amazing aquarium.

Thanks edwar050 for the advice, I am really enjoying it so far here, everyone is so nice, and I can attest to the Southern hospitality first hand.
I do highly appreciate that people here are religious and stand for each other.

We get some weird looks every now and then, but guess this is totally normal when seeing "strangers", Several times people just come over to us and strike a conversation to see where are we from ,... It has been pleasant so far.

Casinos are not our thing Disney is definitely on the list, though not sure when to go (arranging a good time with school schedule is near impossible, we will have to accept it being over crowded I guess).
Atlanta is also on the list.

Thanks again for the tips

I'm so glad to hear that your transition here is good! I'm
in med school here at USA and there are many Muslims in our group
and they also like the Mobile area. Mobile has a rapidly growing Muslim community, so it's becoming a norm in south Alabama, especially at the university where they have a high number of Muslim students (there's even a Muslim student association)! Anyways, overall, people down here will not bother you in regards to religion. Students and teachers are usually very respectful of religious views, esepcially in the public schools. please keep us updated on your journey and welcome to Mobile and the United States!!!!

We don't mind yall down here so long as you assimilate and don't force your views on others. That is a kicker with people from the south. A lot of us are ex military here. I wouldn't say Muslims are becoming the Norm in Mobile actually far from it. But there are quite a few groups at UA, USA, and Auburn.
