Great Falls Coal Plant (Plains, Sheridan: buyer, safety, trains)

Howdy,

I see the powers that be have designs for a coal plant near Great Falls. What's the latest with this? Will it actually go through?

Just so you know, IMHO, this will be disastrous for the beautiful and historic Upper Missouri River basin.

Is there any opposition to a large coal burner in Great Falls?

Montana should develop wind energy, especially in areas with high wind speeds. Other states in the Great Plains are really starting to develop more wind farms recently as they build more high voltage transmission lines. Coal plants are the worst. I would take a nuclear plant any day of the week. Safety standards are very high and nuclear does not create CO2, SO2, NO2, and mercury.

If we had not killed all the buffalo off we could be burning buffalo chips. renewable and natural. wind mills are overblown, it takes Alot of them to supply power to the demands we have. also people seem to dislike there looks, supposedly noisy, not. and they are killing alot of birds personally I do like nukes, power plants too. as for coal, they burn alot cleaner than just 20yrs ago. I say build it.

Coal fired power generation plants are responsible for the mercury contamination in the local lake dwelling fish. It's in the acid rain and it makes me want to throw them all back ! It's the same reason I substitute sardine fillets for tuna anymore when I'm making a tuna noodle casserole or a tuna sandwich. I still like to eat small stream young brookies or the like, but the big lake macs are off limits for me from now on, they are just too polluted. Just look at the states fish consumption guidelines. Go nukes and bail the coal plants is what I say.

I've seen coal plants crop up. It's not so bad. You can kind of smell the coal, but it's not that unpleasant. It's needed for power, for now. We have the great pleasure of low sulfur coal. May stink a bit, but it's the way we have to burn. Power, that's what the community needs.

In chehalis, wa. there is a coal plant. they import coal from wyoming. its on the west side south of olympia. you dont know its there and supplys to more people than mt has.

Are you aware that Pennsylvania is the largest buyer of Wyoming Coal? They are the biggest supplier, but it's high sulfer coal so they can't sell what they want. So they purchase Wyoming low sulfer coal. Just from Sheridan alone, 9-10 trains a day, loaded with coal, head for Penn. 110 cars of over 100 ton go every day. Tell me that's not making a hole in the ground.

the coal in chehalis for now got tobe too expense to mine compared to WY stuff. some day when man is gone there will be a very big hole.
