Is there any kind of repellant that is effective against these flies?

Yup.
It's safer to use an ice pick and stab them to death with it.
...and then use the napalm to be sure they won't get back up and go after you.

Personally I don't like getting close enough to use an ice pick. I prefer to hit them with a sledgehammer and try to stun them long enough to get to an ax to finish them off with.
