After watching the winter Olympics over the past few days, I've noticed that there are several competitors from Montana. I'm interested to know if Montana has any medal winners from past Olympic games, where they train in Montana, and any other trivia about Olympians from Montana. Thanks!

I have noticed that to. That is really neat. My son wants to learn how to snowboard so bad, but where I live we have no hills that are any closer than about 3 hours away. I look forward to more answers to your trivia.

When I was in high school and college, we were all excited to see figure skater John Misha Petkevich, who trained in Great Falls, MT, at the Olympics of 1968 and 1972.
He was well known for his style influencing figure skating. He even wrote a world class reference book, Figure Skating: Championship Techniques.

I don't pay a lot of attention to the olympics or other professional sports, so not the best resource for this question.

However, the former governor of Montana Judy Martz was an Olympic speed skater. She was one of the driving forces putting in the speed skating training facility in Butte.

There were several people I went to High School with in Bozeman who were olympic biathletes, (the shooting/cross country skiing event) and there have been more than a few individuals who have participated in downhill skiing, cross country skiing, and I believe there was at least one Montanan on one of the olympic hocky teams.

A friend of mines son was an alternate for olympic wrestling a few years ago, now that is a tough sport. I believe the son still lives in Havre.

I am more a fan of sports I can participate in for my own enjoyment, and watching other people do those things on tv just doesn't get me excited so I don't pay too much attention unless it is someone I know.

Sorry I can't be of more help, it is just not something I find noteworthy.

Thanks for sharing everyone. I appreciate your comments! MTSilvertip, I understand where you're coming from. But since I can't ski down here, the next best thing is watching it on TV....lol. Believe me, I'd much rather be participating than watching from afar!

Eric Bergoust and Tommy Moe were both gold medal skiiers. Tommy Moe trained at Big Mountain (now called Whitefish Mountain to everyone but native Montanans lol) he grew up in his grandmothers house which is a small, now abandoned place at the base of the mountain. He has a run called Moe Mentum named after him, which is the original trail he practiced racing on. Eric Bergoust is also very well known in MT. Those are just two of our classic skiiers. We had two Olympians this year in Vancouver, but they didn't receive medals. More known for the winter Olympics, but we have had some summer Olympians, such as David Berkoff, who actually is in the swimming hall of fame and is best known for his underwater "Berkoff Blastoff" during the backstroke.
