It's over an hour apart whereas hardin is less then 20 mins from billings. go to the billings montana web site and there's info on lodging. stay away from the locally run motels and go with the big chain ones becasue they are better run and cleaner. there's some pretty dicy mom and pop motels througout billings that have very bad reputations and you wouldn't know this until you arrived. good luck and hope you have an enjoyable trip.
My mistake Hardin is not less then 20 mins from billings; more like 45 mins, sorry for the misinformation.

Still a lot closer then Sheridan.

I was thinking that if the primary objective was LBH then Sheridan is 70 miles South and Billings is 63 miles North West. Both by interstate so not a lot of difference.

To the OP. You mentioned staying with the Cheyenne. The Little Big Horn, at Crow Agency, is on the Crow Indian Reservation. If you want to stay with the Cheyenne Indians, you'll have to go 45 miles East of Crow Agency to Lame Deer, on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. Lame Deer is a nice little town, the people are nice. But I've never stayed there. Stopped there a lot of times but never stayed.

If you are going to Hardin, the best thing to do is head south about 30 miles and go fishing on the Bighorn River. Contact the Bighorn Angler for information. It is one of the best trout fishing destinations in the world.

Wasn't there a big stink in Hardin over the prison last fall? Something about a foriegn military co. took over the police and was going to use the prison for something. The prison is now sitting empty. Info warrior and talk show host Alex Jones was all over this one. They should open the prison to tourists.

Since Dad died, we've no reason to go back there or ride in the event. He and I used to participate in many of the Crow events each year. Down here, I've many more places to see before I rest.

Sorry you lost your father --you must have many great memories from the annual events. We have friends who used to be there every year, but who've stopped participating in the events, too, for many reasons--but I thought a European tourist with an interest in the West would get a kick out of participating.
