How is Montreal's climate overall? I heard it's BITTER cold & lots of snow in winter for months. Is it that cold?
How is it compared to here in NJ/New York City area? Is it lack of sunshine in winter?

With an average of -10.2C in winter, ranging from about -14 to -6 I would say yes, it's a pretty severe climate. It's winters and gloomy and snowy, so be prepared for lots of the white stuff! Think Minneapolis, but much wetter. NJ/NYC doesn't even compare.

NYC/NJ is more like Halifax/Nova Scotia. Montreal's weather is comparable to that of WNY's.

I've actually BEEN to Montreal (and Minneapolis) in the winter and have lived through NYC and Toronto winters and YES Montreal winters felt much colder than Toronto and NYC and as cold as Minneapolis. Brrr.. I'm still happy to visit Montreal in any time of year.
