I'd love to have a motorcycle but accidents happen and that is why I won't drive one.

I spent too many long hours in a neurosurgical intensive care unit full of motorcycle riders to ever get on a bike. I used to ride them as a kid (before I knew any better) and they are fun as hell. Nothing like an open air ride, but they are just too dangerous.

It is usually not the biker who is the danger- it the car drivers who don't see them.

Just get a convertible to get the open air "buzz".

I had a neighbor years ago who had a Harley...he used to take me on occasional Sunday afternoon rides while DH was out visiting his parents. No, nothing "funny" was going on, we really enjoyed them and I always told DH afterward. I still remember cruising the rural countryside, feeling like a biker chic and wearing my black leather jacket.

Would I go now? No, I've read too many horror stories since (and my neighbor has since moved long ago and sadly passed away). And I'm pushing 60. Broken bones won't heal as well.

I've been riding motorcycles seems like forever. Every accident I got into was my fault.

The first time I rode one I was about 12 years old and it was off a sloping cliff and I sailed through the air about 150 feet and landed safely.

Once was enough and I recognized how lucky I was. I was with some older guys that were doing it and thought I'd give it a try too. I never regretted doing it but knew I wasn't going to improve on my one safe landing !!! No one tried to talk me out of it and no one tried to talk me into doing it again !!!

When I was married I told my motorcycle riding husband one thing: "If you have an accident and end up paralyzed or brain damaged I will not take care of you, I will put you in a nursing home."

And that was the end of it, he sold his bike and never bought another one even after we divorced.

On the road riding...I would absolutely try to discourage it. There is just too much distracted driving going on now. For those riding motorcycles, it isn't if an accident will happen, it's when.

Now track riding or trails, sure I encourage it, and do it myself.

Chances are you are going to be in accident sometime in your life no matter what you are driving. A minor accident in car is major accident on a motorcycle. As one example I have hit two deerduring my 30 years of driving and if I was on a bike at least one of those accidents probably would of been fatal because of the speed I was traveling. I would never suggest people shouldn't be allowed to ride a motorcycle but I think they have to be nuts, it's a very big risk no matter which way you look at it.
