First of all,i am European and have big discussion with american parents...topic..movie hopping. My son is not allowed to,their kids are allowed to!!

I consider movie hopping dishonest,betray,stealing...bad values!!Parents hier in South California are very fine with that. They encourage this and do it themselves!!!

What do you think about it??No parent in Germany would encourage his children to do that!It is despicable,in my opinion.

What do you think?I am shocked about such a majority!!!!Shocked!!

with the money from tickets, employes are paid...it is as stealing their bread...cinema maintaned and much more!...in my eyes:ignorants, uneducated and yes, thieves!!!!

people who steal,i call thieves!!!

there is no excuse for that!!you watch a movie you did not pay for!!YOU STEAL!!!very simple....

I do not movie hop nor would I allow my children to movie hop. We'd go back and buy another ticket if we decided to stay and see another movie. I agree with you that this is dishonest and setting a bad example for the kids. It is stealing.

I think it -can- be a rite of passage for kids to try this at least once. However, that is assuming that they know, in advance, that it is stealing, and wrong, and unfair to honest people who -do- pay, and that it's one of the many reasons why costs at movie theatres are so high.

Those who choose to do this on a regular basis, usually, eventually, get caught. We used to kick people out of our theatre when I worked for a couple of them, when they got caught. If they got caught a second time, they'd be banned; not allowed in at all.

A problem now, is that the theatres are too big to be appropriately monitored. They can't hire enough "ushers" to watch every exit, every theatre-room doorway, to make sure customer #972 hasn't entered a second viewing room that day. The theatres I worked for, only had 1 viewing room. It was easy to figure out which customer was staying for the start of the next showing because he was late to the start of the last one (which we allowed), and which one was coming to see it twice without paying the second time (which was not allowed), and which one was sneaking in through the side door with a friend opening it from the inside, and pretending to show up late from the bathroom (which was obviously not allowed).

I'm a bit surprised parents in your area encourage this and do it themselves. Parents aren't like that here.

How do the children in your area have the time to movie hop?

My children were only at the theater long enough to see one movie. If they movie hopped, they sure didn't see one entire movie.

I'm assuming that it is sneaking into an addtional movie at the theater without paying for tickets.

When I was a teen, I remember stopping in and looking at other movies for a few minutes, but we certainly didn't watch it.

I thought it was called plexing. Oh well. When I saw the title, I thought it was referring to walking out of several movies because they were offensive or something.

I agree with OP and IvoryTickler. It is wrong and something I certainly would not encourage.

It's theft. I will not encourage my children to take something that is not theirs merely because no-one can see them, or because there is a high likelihood they will not be caught. Parents who encourage this are scumbags. It's the same as downloading pirated movies online.

Yawn. Another post from this poster about how awful American parents are compared to European parents. I don't know any parents that would encourage this behavior, although I'm sure there are some who do - I just doubt the US has cornered the bad parenting market.
