Absolutely brilliant performance I thought. She is Oscar material (again). Didn't care for the movie. Thought it would have been better on stage, since there really wasn't any set design, action or costumes. But it was great acting. Had to stop and think who was who at first. Did you see it and what did you think?

Didn't care for the movie? Darn. I'd hoped it would be wonderful. I'll see it anyway. I see everything Meryl Streep is in.

I saw the National Tour of the stage play with Estelle Parsons. Loved the 3-story "dollhouse" set, which earned rave reviews. Watching 85-year-old Parsons run up and down those stairs added to her portrayal of the hyperactive out-of-control matriarch. The entire production was perfect in every way. I don't intend to see the movie since it can only suffer in comparison.

Estelle...she was in the Gift shop boutique at a a hotel my friend was at...
She helped her pick out some clothes and told her she just loved her.
Estelle was so gushy, gracious and so sweet huggin on her all over.

I want to see it badly, but, I can't stand Julia Roberts. Is she in it much?

Here's a story re Estelle playing Violet in the stage play:
The August Role is a Workout, but she's fit

She was still racing up those stairs 4 years later in the touring production.

Meryl Streep as Violet just won't work for me after seeing Parsons in the role.

Julia Roberts is the daughter, Barbara and you will see her in 90% of the movie.

We watched this movie last night. I'm surprised that Meryl or Julia didn't get an Oscar for this movie. Well done film, but really really dark at times......

It left me feeling pretty shook up about the level of human dysfunction and misery the some people have.... Sad sad person the character that Meryl played......

I thought the whole thing was excellent and Streep, of course, as usual, brilliant.
