Most awards (especially in the movie industry) ultimately have nothing to do with artistic quality. It's about which movie, actor, actress, director, producer, etc. has the best PR agent.

Awards shows are publicity stunts. Nothing more.

But, come on...Tom Clancy....how many novels did they turn into movies?
Sarah Jones that was in Midnight Rider...that I read, I wasn't aware of her death.

I just think it is sad to leave ANYone out that has something to do with films...
even one film or movie...it might take one full minute more to add 5 people...
Such an honor to the person... not deemed important to mention.

That's all...a missed opportunity to show thhe importance of the human heart and a life.
I think there were too many people included in the "In Memoriam" section as it was. The awards show ran a full 30 minutes over schedule, if they were to include EVERYONE that died in the past year, the award show would still be going on today, Tuesday!!

They only include people that had a vast influence on the Academy and films honored by the Academy. I think it would have been laughable if Cory Monteith was included in the memorial service. He's done next to nothing in the world of film and hasn't come close to sniffing an Academy-type film.

I also feel that some of the awards like Foreign Language film, documentary short, animated short, and even visual effects should be cut from the broadcast. I'm sorry, but other than someone who was invloved with a nominated film in one of those categories, does ANY one care about them? I would say the same for costume design and makeup as well. They're filler and the acceptance speeches are dreadful.

They do make the show unbearably LONG. Was this year's longer than usual? It seemed like it. For the first hour and a half, there was only one major award given out, Best Supporting Actor.

Well, they don't even have to let us watch their award show.
It's THEIR fun night...we are peeping Tom's as far as I can tell.

(Network advertising profit is why we get to watch as far as I can tell.)
