The Last Chase, with Lee Majors, is an obscure film that isn't great but good for car guys. Of course, the opening to The Cannonball Run (either 1 or 2). And while not really a chase scene, the scene in the LA River in Gumball Rallye is spectacular. Of course, the original Gone in 60 Seconds from the '70s is one long car chase (unlike the pitiful remake from the 2000s).
Ronin has a great chase scene, and then there's the original '60s Italian Job with the Minis. A lot of fun (the remake isn't quite so fun, but it's still good).
"Best" being a subjective term, Bullitt (1968) and To Live and Die in LA (1986) both have two the best car chase scenes in film history. Ronin (1998) and an obscure film called Seven Ups (1973) starring Roy Scheider are close behind those two.
My top 2 would be from To Live & Die in L.A. and the The Blues Brothers!!
Anyone recall the Gumball Rally or the Cannonball Run flicks?
