Spock. The original STII:TWOK was such a great movie.. Especially the last 30 minutes or so with the death and funeral of Spock. You didn't even have to be a Star Trek fan to enjoy that movie.

And my other movie choice would be Forrest gump when his mom died then jenny died. I'm a grown man but after jenny died you aren't human if you didn't get glassy eyed. Tom hanks is an extrodinary actor.

What about when Sally Field's daughter dies in Steel Magnolias? Her grief is so heart rending.

Also, one of my favorite movies is Man in the Moon - a very young Reese Witherspoon plays in it. There's a very sad scene where her sister's boyfriend is killed by a tractor and his mother finds him in the field - OMG. I was crying out loud watching that scene.

And Jane Fonda - in the Doll Maker - when her little girl is run over by that train and they're trying to get her to the hospital and you know she's dead but Jane Fonda can't accept it. Sheeze!

Augh - what about the scene in Sarah's Key when the sister goes running into the apartment and yanks open the hidden door to the closet and realizes that her little brother never got out of there - that he died in that closet all alone?

Only three deaths in movies have totally destroyed me:

  • Sam the dog in I Am Legend
  • Kevin in The Mighty (well, you never see him die, but how his death affects his best friend is absolutely heartbreaking)
  • Jack in Titanic

It's an old movie thread. Nobody should expect a movie or television discussion thread to continue to pretend forever that nobody has seen them.

Indeed. The statute of limitations on revealing - for example - that 'Rosebud' was the name of Kane's sled expired sometime during the Eisenhower administration.

I typically will grant about 25 years on revealing endings myself, but that's just me and that's much more generous than I expect others to be.

By the time Shelby died in Steel Magnolias, I was ready to shove a box full of perm rods down the throat of Sally Field's character. The author killed off the wrong woman.

Common sense dictates that a thread about movie deaths would contain spoilers.

Seems to be quite a shortage of that these days.
