How so? I was never a huge fan of the character, but I'm super excited about this movie.

That doesn't bode well for DC, yet again.......
Of that list, the only one I might possible be interested in seeing in the theater is The Mummy. And we'll see how that turns out. The others ... meh. Not interested.

Bad Boys III???? Really? Were the first two not punishment enough?

I was thinking maybe World War Z myself. It looks like Wonder Woman has a clear field unless a MCU or Fast And Furious movie is opening the week before it. Is Will Smith doing Bad Boys or will that be another opportunity to push Jaden on us?

Wonder Woman does not have a $200M budget, so it doesn't have to make $600M to break even.

Of those movies, the only real competition is Pirates (assuming people still get excited for it).

The only other one I'll bother seeing in the theater is World War Z II. I liked the first one. The Mummy again? No thanks.

The last sequels killed any excitement I had for that story.

World War Z was okay. I didn't dislike it. But I didn't like it enough that I care to see it again and again. It was okay. Nothing more. Certainly not demanding a sequel. Although I'd be willing to bet the marketing campaign will call this movie WWZZ.

On The Mummy the jury is still out. What little I have heard of it suggests they are going back to make an actual monster movie and less of a nyuk-nyuk of the more recent mummy movies. If this is an actual horror movie, I'll get interested quick. If it is another Indiana Jones clone vs. the Mummy I'll most definitely stay home.

It's just that it's...the Mummy, while the Gill Man continues to be ignored. We had a remake of The Wolfman, already. We got Dracula Untold. So where's Creature?

Wonder Woman is not expected to gross a bazillion dollars. But if X-Men: Apocalypse (which has also encountered major competition) can exceed $500 million in worldwide sales, so can Wonder Woman. Easily.

BvS was a lackluster film. Yes the Ultimate Edition is a better cut, but it still contains some of the core problems. And since it is not the official release, it will not change anything.

X-Men: Apocalypse had a good precedent, but was a terrible film, and effectively did not have any competition, and underperformed at the box office.

Wonder Woman was definitely the highlight of the film. I'm not sure what the expectations are for the solo film, I'm just saying it will face considerable competition. This diverse slate of films will draw from various sectors of audiences and demographics, and could sap interest from Wonder Woman. Not to mention that each of these films are a draw.

Pirates - in it's second weekend ($39-62m) - will still play big during Wonder Woman's opening weekend, which is also the opening weekend for Bad Boys III ($15-46m). The second weekend of Wonder Woman will be the opening weekend of Divergent ($29-54m), WWZZ ($66m), and The Mummy ($36-68m).

I would LOVE a remake of The Creature from the Black Lagoon if it was done correctly. But that's a movie that would be so easy to screw up. You really need a deft directorial hand and a sharp script to make that work.

I saw The Wolfman remake. Meh. Can't say I hated it, but I've never been struck with a desire to rewatch it.

No interest in seeing Dracula Untold. It shall remain Dracula Unwatched for me. I hate the trend of turning that character into a navel-gazing misunderstood hero. Dracula is a monster. Leave the emo vampires to Anne Rice and Stephanie Meyer.

Same here. Dracula needs a break, anyway.

Seriously, we'll get another Frankenstein before Creature.

I think Peter Jackson could have done a great Creature twenty years ago, before he became a CGI addict.

Guillermo del Toro might be able to pull it off.

I don't know. James Wan maybe? I haven't seen many of his movies, but every one I have seen I liked a lot.

Here is the thing about CftBL: One of the major plot points was much fun and fitting in the 1950s. That is: The monster snatching the beautiful girl so that the square-jawed hero must save her. Today ... ? I think most directors are going to turn that either campy or gross. You really can't divorce the sexual element from the premise, but then you have to find a way to make the fish man + fair maiden work without either making it a sick joke or some sort of weird softcore porn parody. It could be done. I'm just not sure I'd trust today's Hollywood to do it.

We should get the first official Wonder Woman trailer (not just a teaser) this month.

Quote:
“Wonder Woman” hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
First Official Synopsis For WONDER WOMAN Released; Screenplay Was Penned By Allan Heinberg & Geoff Johns
