I wish someone had posted the true nature of the movie here before we sent for it. I might have still watched it eventually, when it is on cable and had nothing more I wanted to watch.
What I had heard beforehand was it is a movie about a young Black man growing up in Liberty City and, since I lived in the Miami are for a few years before the Liberty City riots(in the 80s) I wanted to see their take on it.
You could have looked up the synopsis anywhere, and it would have told you what the movie is about.
My son and his GF said it was one of the worst movies they ever saw but they wanted to see it because of the Oscar win. He said it seemed like the Academy was going to give the Oscar to any "black" film or actor after last year's debacle.
I used to go see a movie because it won awards but after seeing a couple of real snoozers including Manchester by the Sea I've learned my lesson.

Well it's still worth a watch even if you find them bad, at least you can make your own conclusion.
This movie started off slow...www. It did have feeling throughout but didn't really grab me until the middle, aka the kiss scene.
This movie had like four really breath catching parts,
THe "am I a f-gg-t" question (Little)
The Kiss (Black)
The song in the diner
Plus the last scene and revelation
Watch it on a day wherein you are in the mood for something... brooding and moody.
