I don't know about the rest of you, but we have a ton of kids VHS movies that we purchased when our kids were younger. You know, every disney movie ever! I was thinking that they really are next to useless to hang on to, however, I know that my husband will have a difference of opinion. Just want to hear what others think might be a good idea to do with all of these videos.
We have some too...and we still have our VCR. The DVD player is in the living room and the VCR is in the den. I guess we'll keep it. I dunno...what else CAN you do?? I have tapes with things on them that I want to keep...911 for example. I taped all day long when that happened and I want to watch it ... some day.
You may want to donate kids movies on VHS and/or VHS players to a battered women's shelter where the children could surely use the comfort of a good family film
If you have a computer/laptop, with Read/Write DVD drive, you can get a device that goes between the VCR and the computer, which will allow you to play the VHS tapes, and convert them into DVD. Depending on what brand of those devices you get, you might need a computer with at least 200 giga-bytes of disk space, and a robust processor, with at least 512 megs of memory, because in some cases, the devices will create digital video files on the hard drive, which will then allow you to burn them on the DVD. Some devices also have the capability to transfer the video directly from the VCR to the DVD disk, and that also requires a computer with fairly robust amount of resources, mainly memory and processor speed, but not as much disk space.
I did that on a bunch of videos I created on my old cam-corder, that recorded on VHS tapes, and it worked well.
Those devices can be purchased for about $30 from Best Buy, Fry's Electronics, or other electronics distributors.
I too have loads of movies on VHS ....it would cost a fortune to re-buy them on DVD ....I still own 5 VCRS....my oldest one from 1985 is my best ...made in Japan and still going strong....I say keep your VHS ...as long as you have a VCR that works ... 10 years from now DVD's will be obsolete too
When we weeded ours out, we took them to the Senior Center. It was like I had brought toys from Santa. The "kids" were going through the bags and calling out to their friends what they were finding.
Hahaha Ahhh Yes Vhs...my I Have Tons...i Should Sell Them To Pawn Shops But I Have Too May To Carry And Too May Withought There Casings
