Am I the only person on the planet who did not like this movie?
Although it had an optimistic ending, it was too full of violence, cruelty, and gut wrenching poverty for me. It does not show India in a good light at all. If I was Indian I would be totally embarrased by this movie.
I don't like Hollywood endings. To me, it was not in keeping with reality. There is no way I thought the brother would sacrifice himself. That being said, however, it was good to see a movie that was different and very well made with phenomenal child actors and spectacular photography with the colors of India. I found it hard to watch at times, and that disturbed me.
I think the movie was well made and lushly photographed, but I cannot tolerate watching that much child abuse, cruelty, drug abuse, murder, torture....what's to like?
I was going to see it in the theater but ended up not going to the movies that day. I'll watch it sometime, soon I hope, when I get around to it. Abject poverty and all of the evils that go with it can be found in quite a few places, countries.
I did see The Boy in the Striped Pajamas over the holidays.
