I use it regularly to get an idea whether I'll want to watch a movie on cable, and I use it often to look up the casts of pictures. I give high ratings to movies I like, mainly so I can go back to my account and remember the titles of films I liked. But I never participate in any discussin boards, and rarely offer a comment on a film.
I use it almost exclusively to find out something cast related. Who it was in a movie or when watching a movie and seeing someone I might wonder what else they have been in etc. I usually go to rotten tomatoes for reviews or synopsis but I've also been going to movie spoilers lately for those too.
By the way, I want to mention one strategy I use at IMDB. When I view the user comments, I sort for "hated it" and see what reasons people had for hating the picture. If their reasons are congruent with the kinds of things that I hate in movies, I use it as cautionary.
IMDB.com has been a godsend for me, seriously. It has settled bets on numerous occasions. I just went on it today to see how old the original Audrey (Dana Barron) from the first Vacation movie was when she was on Beverly Hills 90210....for the record, she was 26. I just KNEW it was her! I can't tell you how much I love that site...thank you thank you THANK YOU whoever started that site! And, the little behind the scenes trivia & the ooops! are awesome to read for whatever movie you're looking up.
I use the site a fair amount, but I don't check the boards much or at all.
same here...
I was looking at some of the people involved with the campy serial "Batman" between '66 and '68. Some seemed to never act again after the end of Batman, for some, the stint on Batman had no effect at all.
I go there to look stuff up, actors and such. But the threads suck. Can't carry on a conversation. Just a bunch of random people asking obscure movie questions.
