X and Z are pretty much closed for me. Already done all of them that I've a mind to.
^^^ I think I'd have to put Barbra Streisand at or very near the top of simply incredible female voices, but I wouldn't get far along before wanting to add Karen Carpenter's name to that list. What a marvelous gift! Too bad I think not just for her illness, but for Richard's having kept the range of her material so narrow.
Can't resist doing a two-fer here -- double-dose of Holly Beth Vincent. Obviously, both these tunes are from the same 1982 Holly and the Italians album that contains as well the wonderful Honalu posted earlier. That album was kind of her peak, though she dated and wrote and played with all sorts of name-people both before and after. Another who didn't get all the public notice she deserved?
^^^I haven't heard these for longer than I can guess! I love this forum for reminding me of artists and songs, plus introducing me to others. That's why I'm so addicted=}
In response, here's a double dose of the lovely and tragic Ruth Etting.
^^^ It's an odd period between the wars. I find it hard to connect to. My own parents didn't talk a lot about it except for some personal vignette sorts of things. I feel like I understand the Revolutionary period better than the 20's and 30's. But in any case, did the opening to Funny, Dear... remind you at all of the theme music for The Little Rascals? LOL! And here's one recorded (according to the notes) just days before Black Friday...

I have to admit that I haven't seen any of those shorts for longer than I can recall. I'd have to hunt one up to compare them. I especially posted it because it's a new song for me though I've heard a number of her songs. My maternal grandparents, aunts and uncles, and parents gave me a good education in music that had gone before. What songs they didn't have on records they generally could sing for me. Mom always tickles me when she bursts into "One meatball!" when we talk about silly/novelty songs. Mom and dad also would sing "Three Little Fishies" to entertain my sister and I. I was started out on a wide variety of music and just kept going throughout the years.
