Just curious: do you think these kinds of love ballads are romantic? Are they the kinds of songs, you would dedicate, to your special sweetie?

Like? Dislike? Thoughts / feedback please on any or all, listed below? Thanks in advance!!

No, those songs are not my style. I only watched about three seconds of the first one, though, because I don't like American Idol or watching their generic singers ruin songs I do like. The title made me think that they were about to sing Air Supply's All Out of Love. I do like that song, but I would choose another ballad over it.

Lol...the first song link I listed, was actually a modern cover of Air Supply's original "All Out of Love" (also my personal favorite love song of all time ).

ETA: If you like "All Out of Love" though, I really think you might like a few of the others, if you tried perhaps listening to say the 2nd and/or 3rd links, in the list perhaps, if you might hopefully like to try re-consider listening?

No, sorry, I know what I like. I did listen to a few opening bars of each of those songs. No big deal. I'm not going to bash your taste in music. We just like different things.

eeeek! i don't mind a bit of ambrosia ("your the biggest part of me" is a schmalzy fave) but yeah, even these are too sugary for my admittedly elitist pallet : )

Atlantic Starr - Always, will forever make me think of late 1980's Southern California Women's hair salons.

ahahahahahaha, now THAT is a rarified answer. its like how the breakfast club's "right on track" makes me think of a 1984 arby's. (actually it does)

I think a big part of "that special song" is that it will resonate with the object of your affection. My husband and I are products of the 80s, so our ballads are largely old heavy metal songs.

(Yes, the video is super sappy.)

I know many people like "A Whole New World" from Aladdin and that kind of music. Celine Dion's song from Titanic. That's not our style. Even if I did like it, I would not play it for him because he does not. THE SONG (you know, "your song") has to be meaningful to both people, perhaps sparking a special memory.

lord julia! i think my teeth just rotted out of my head (lol, just kidding).

some great schmaltzy ballads in my book, that are guilty pleasures, and make others (possibly) vomit

BREAD- Baby I'm A want you
AMERICA Muskrat Love
The LITTLE RIVER BAND Love Will Find A Way
JOHNNY RIVERS Summer Rain (tho that isn't too schmaltzy)
"If I were A Carpenter" by any damn body (especially Tim Hardin, Waylon Jennings, and the Four Tops)
