Mr. Humble, I'm glad you liked that video for It's a Lonesome Old Town. I've always heard that Ava was the love of Frank's life. Don't know if that's true or not.
Frank was my mom's favorite singer. She died in 1997 and I can't listen to some of his songs, the ones that were her favorites, without crying. Anyway, when Frank's mother was killed in a plane crash in 1977, my mom sent him a condolence card. I expect she wrote him a letter with it because, well, that's the way she was. She had a warm heart. She was so pleased to receive an acknowledgement of her card. I never saw what Frank's people sent her, but she was truly touched by whatever it said.
I've posted Frank singing one of my favs, One for My Baby followed by Jane Russell singing the same tune in Macao. Love those classic movies and stars.
Yeah, Frank's mother, Dolly, was on her way to his house in Palm Springs when her plane ran into that mountain in the fog. Hearing of the tragedy, Dean Martin's son, Dino, a licensed pilot said, "Something really should be done about that mountain. It's a hazard." Don't know how long afterwards it was that Dino flew his small plane into the same mountain and died. At that time, Dean and Jerry Lewis hadn't spoken in decades, but Jerry was spotted at Dino's funeral, standing far off from the grave site.
Wow, I'm doing you no good, am I? Music that we associate with a loved one who has passed can be very hard to listen to. Probably, if you can, your best bet is to stick with the up--tempo, happier stuff.
The voice. Sinatra was an incredible performer and nobody could top his sound. As others have said, it is amazing how well he performed live, adding a unique twist in each performance and introducing each song with a comment or two on its history, the composer's name, etc. He was a perfectionist who cradled his voice, and it showed. I'd say he was the best American entertainer, no doubt!
Thanks...I get teary when I hear "Didn't we"...perhaps he was thinking of Ava when he sang it!
Have a pleasant evening.
