As to chasing Jimi's tone...You've covered it well! I might only add a couple of possibly unknown names here in the States.

That tone is almost perfect! You have to have heavy gauge strings on a Strat to get it. That is Jimi/ SRV Strat tone. I like the SRV slides and trills too. Very cool! Rep added!!

Jimi was a huge influence on Ed. This is just one example in his long list. Pick scrapes and wah-wah.
