Unquestionably IMHO the greatest guitarist that ever lived, period. I had the amazing fortune to see him Live at the Boston Garden. I thought there had to be some other guitarists hidden somewhere, playing along with him. He was amazing beyond description, he played the guitar behind his back, with his teeth, with the mic stand, crashed into the amps and tore off the strings at the end. What a show, never to be duplicated. He was and will always be a true original, a virtuoso, a genius and the GOAT.

Hendrix was undoubtedly the best guitarist of my lifetime. No one else came close.

I always think of Jimi as "having fun" with the instrument... not just playing it, but seeing what he could do with it, even in terms of interesting "nonstandard" effects.

Jimi was surely the most creative guitarist. He seemed to have zero limits on ideas. And he was seriously underrated as a singer. His band (Mitch Mitchell/Noel Redding) were perfect for Jimi's sound.

Eddie came out and everyone quickly forgot about Hendrix.

Unlike Van Halen, Hendrix could write songs and sing.

Also, Hendrix's guitar always served the music. Van Halen's guitar was a spectacle, and more often than not the 'song' was just something to drape around the guitar.

Many of the World's Greatest Guitarists though weren't great songwriters.

That's why I cite Lindsey Buckingham as one of the greatest. Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie and the rest of Fleetwood Mac would have been forgotten by the mid 1970s if not for Lindsey's arrival. Melodic playing, just long enough solos and great production created the successful Fleetwood Mac "sound". Yeah they existed with Peter Green but ...

Just my opinion.
