I heard Johnny Cash's version of Hurt before I heard the Nine Inch Nails original. I much prefer the way The Man in Black does it.

I heard this cover of Boys of Summer first, my vote goes to the original.

The Ataris - Boys of Summer (Studio Version) - YouTube

I had no idea that Turns the Page was a cover until relatively recently. I felt very ignorant when I found out.

And I first heard Cat Steven's "First Cut is the Deepest" by Linda Ronstadt, who opened for Cat on "In Concert," that wonderful TV show from the early 70s:

In addition, she sang his "Fill My Eyes" on the show, which is also the first time I heard it:

Original "Fill My Eyes" which I love, but I prefer Linda belting it out, too bad she didn't record these two songs:

The first time yours truly had ever heard "Bridge Over Troubled Water", it wasn't the version done by Simon & Garfunkel (they did the original). Nope. Not when I listened to the radio.

It was this version.....

Heard Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" before Gloria Jones' original version

Heard Wallflowers' version of "Heroes" before Bowie's original version

Heard Manfred Man's version of "Blinded by the Light" before hearing the original Springsteen version

Heard Happy Monday's "Step On" before hearing hearing John Kongos' "He's Gonna Step On You Again"

Heard the King Harvest and Toploader versions of "Dancing the Moonlight" before hearing the original Boffalongo version

Heard the Pogues' and The Dubliners' versions of "Dirty Old Town" before hearing the Ewan MacColl version

Heard the Red Hot Chili Peppers versions of "Higher Ground," "Subterranean Homesick Blues," and "Fire" before their respective original Stevie Wonder, Dylan and Hendrix versions

Heard the Hendrix and U2 versions of "All Along the Watchtower" before the original Dylan version

Heard many remakes by the Beatles before hearing their respective originals; may not have even heard some of the originals yet

One of the few times he didn't sound too bad and is on-key.

I still prefer the covers though I like Buffy Ste. Marie. Frankly, I never cared for Bob Dylan's voice, and I was hearing him in the Sixties. I don't own a single single OR album by him. I do like his songs, of course.
