The Who's original "Pinball Wizard" is considered a rock classic, but it wasn't the first version I remember hearing. That honor belongs to Elton John's cover of it. I also heard John's version of "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds" long before I heard the Beatles' original. I also heard Rod Stewart's cover version of "The First Cut Is the Deepest" LOOOOONG before I heard Cat Stevens.
So Sad About Us - The Who. I heard the Breeders version first.
Venus - Shocking Blue. I heard the Bananarama version first.
Serenade to a Cukoo - Roland Kirk - I heard the Jethro Tull version first.

Same here.
There are lots of other songs I heard that were covers and I hadn't a clue, too many to list!
I also heard many French covers of American/ British songs before actually hearing the original song, as I was raised in France and many songs were "adapted" by French singers.
One I have in mind was entitled " faire un pont" (I think), I thought it was a French song until I heard Olivia Newton John sing "take me home, country roads", the same song in English, which of course I thought was her song, until I found out it had been created by John Denver
