Nicole Richie's father, Lionel Richie, had a string of hits in the early 80s. One of them was on the soundtrack for a teen comedy/drama about a nice guy who finishes last and loses the girl. It was the "Last American Virgin". This song was in the film and added good context to the drama of young love lost in the midst of adolescent turbulence of the early 80s in Southern California.
This one by the Beatles is about a guy who was rejected and doesn't want to go through it a "2nd time". I've been listening to this a lot the past few days. It reminds me of a beautiful Brazilian girl I fell for back in Florida - voce e linda. But she was out-of-reach, and I disappeared after that - lol.
This next one might have been a good love lost song like Hollywood Nights, if Bob wasn't so happily married. Dang it, oh wait, this was from 1982 and he broke up with Jan Dinsdale in '83, married and divorced Annette Sinclair in 1987, so it counts as a love lost song even tho he did finally settle down for good with Juanita Dorricott in 1993.
