By the time I was in my mid-teens, I was in the habit of going to the movies by myself and going to favorites more than once, which most people thought was crazy back then. You saw the movie! Why see it again?! There were exceptions, such as "2001: A Space Odyssey" and the re-release of "Bonnie and Clyde", which people went back to again and again. But, "nowhere" films...? Hence, I was the strange one, choosing movies most people didn't pay much attention to then wanting to see them repeatedly. Even my father didn't understand my desire to revisit this one several times. To this day, I love it but have rarely seen it. Perhaps someday it will show up on TCM, and I'll finally have a copy: Half a Sixpence!
I wish they had more clips from the film, including "If the Rain's Got to Fall", a very lengthy outdoors number, and the sad, sweet "She's Too Far Above Me".
After this, I was in love with Tommy Steele=} "Finian's Rainbow" was another I saw a number of times in the theater. Thank goodness, it doesn't have the obscurity of "Half a Sixpence". Someday, I also want to take in another viewing of "Where's Jack?", in which Tommy Steele takes on a much more serious role. Whatever he's in, he's a delight, and I'm still nursing that old crush. What a talented cutie! BTW: "Half a Sixpence" is based on H.G. Wells' "Kipps".
