I have a story to tell. *gasp* My sister and I LOVED Tom Terrific~meaning, of course, we were big fans who could be found in front of the TV whenever the show started. One day, when we were going shopping in the big city, my father stopped by a store to run in for a quick errand. He returned with one of those silver funnels for pouring oil. Only, he set it on top of his head and announced, "Look at me! I have a Tom Terrific hat!" Immediately, my sister and I began chanting, "We want a Tom Terrific hat! We want a Tom Terrific hat!" (We weren't bratty children, but~hey!~this was you-know-who!) My mother sort of cuffed my father on the shoulder and made him tell us what it really was for. Being good little girls, we didn't fuss. Still, can you imagine how happy we would have been if he'd brought us "hats"? Of course, who knows how much they cost; we had very little money back then. I'm surprised we really were such good little girls about understanding. I do know that we treasured everything we were given. As an adult, I've sold many of those childhood memories for darned good money that we badly needed=}
