I see a discussion about golf memberships in Murrell's Inlet. There is a private, member owned, Tom Fazio course in Murrell's Inlet that offers annual non-equity memberships for residents with little or no initiation fee, and it offers National Memberships for those that have second homes in the area at about half of the monthly dues. Rated on of the best courses in the state. I am a National Member. Wachesaw Plantation Club (not affiliated with Wachesaw East). You ought to check it out!!!!!
There is another alternative that has good rates such as Sea Trails Plantation which has 3 courses and with the MBP Discount Card and your Local ID you can play for $35 the Local rate is $44 and with regular rate at $60-70 today Feb 5.
Carolina National, Carolina Shores, Crow Creek, Meadowlands and many more all are $36-$40.
The legends group, 5 couses, has a great membership for local residents also. We live in Tidewater and they have a membership and a GREAT course. I moved from CT. and love it
Barefoot Resort has 4 golf courses...when you buy a home, you have the option of joining the golf club...and then, you play for only the cost of the cart.....hubby LOVES it!
You don't have to join Barefoot to play there. Very few buy the memberships, they are given away with the homes. I shared an office there with Barry for several years.

Two points to correct here.
1) Barefoot doesn't just give away memberships if you buy a home. That is only true for the original home owners who bought the home directly from Centex. If you buy a resale today and the previous owner has a membership then the membership will transfer over to your name, but only if you pay the transfer fee (~ $2500). If the owner of a resale home you're buying doesn't have a membership then you're SOL unless you want to pay 20k which is the "street value" for the membership.
2) Once you get the membership you still have monthly dues of about $125 (at least that's what the price was when I left there a few years ago). Then after that you only pay for the cart fee.

.
Yes, good point. The membership is only given with the new home.
In the five years I was the Director of Marketing for Barefoot, no one ever bought a membership.
Again though you don't have to be a member to play any of the Barefoot Courses. Members just pay a lot less in season but there are pretty heavy restrictions.
