My husband and I have spent 5 winters in Naples, this is the last one, we basically despise this town, our house in listed for sale. But we still want to be in Florida, the weather is absolutely heavenly. We are 54 and 63, we have a boat and like to fish. We are plain, ordinary middleclass folks, nothing fancy for us. We're thinking we'd like to be on a lake, with other plain, ordinary middleclass folks, who might speak to us, and who knows, maybe even become friends, that, we did not find in Naples. Anyone have any thoughts? Lake Placid, Sebring or up to Crystal River?

I have in-laws that live in Lake Placid and Sebring and they love it.
The only thing you will have to get used to is the seasonal residents.
You mentioned making friends, I've lived in Venice/Sarasota area for 18 years
and long term friendships are hard to come by. Comings and goings are the
norm I've noticed.

But all in all, I think Sebring would be a good choice, Lake Jackson is clean
and a nice size to go boating on.

my friend from cape cod knows people who live in lake placid and they love it. The only downside was when her husband needed to be in the hospital which was tampa. It is around 2 or 2 and i/2 hours from tampa.
