Guys does anyone have a general idea of what a chain link fence would cost on one of the 2 1/2 acre lots in GGE?
We're looking at houses in that area, a lot of them do not have fenced in lots...and I know we would fence it in.
I have no idea what that would cost....but if it's really expensive we need to consider that

Thanks
Corrie

Why start here? Must be a lot of fence contractors there, eh? Check out some of the handyman referral web sites.

I have put up chain link fences in the past myself. It isn't difficult especially if you rent a post hole digger. Are you planning for a 4 foot high fence or a 6 foot high fence? Will you have a bar going across the top? When you say 2.5 acres are you figuring over 100,000 linear feet? That will be a huge fence.
A cheap estimate for materials would be around:

$1.10 a foot for 4 foot high chain link fence.
$1.60 a foot for 6 foot high chain link fence.
You will also need a bunch of posts, cement, and tie wraps for that huge a property.

Thanks Kram, I have no earthly idea. There's probably someone of this forum that has either had it done....or knows of someone that has. Lots in GGE are all about the same...either a little over 1 acre...or a little over 2..and all the same shape
I just need a ball park idea.....would it be about $3000?....or $50,000??

I'm not a fence expert and its been many years since I did a fence around my 200 by 100 foot business. If you can tell me the length and width of the property you want to fence I can probably give you a ball park guesstimate. Do you need every inch of such a huge property to be fenced in?

Lets say it was 1000 by 700

1000 by 700
1000 by 700
That would be 3400 feet of chain link fence so figure $3600 for 4 foot or $5400 for 6 foot for the chain link fence. You would also need to buy posts, and cement if you did it yourself. With all the bells and whistles I would guesstimate it would cost around $3.00-5.50 a foot for everything materials in my example. Materials wise probably somewhere in the $9,000-$15,000 range. Labor might be $20-$40 an hour depending on who you found.

Kram, thanks!...that gives me an idea
None of the real estate listings give the measurements...other than acreage. Most of the houses are priced (asking) around the same (sq ft)....some have perks like paved driveway, fence, sprinklers, etc
Fence is the one I don't know....

About three years ago I had a 3.3 acre lot done in 6' high with upgraded chain link, 9 gauge as I recall. I think the price was about $16k including permit, a small amount of clearing and electric sliding gate. Seems like the starting price per foot was $8.75 for fence only. Most lots in GGE are 660' deep minus 30' ROW.

Woldkiss....thanks a million! That is exactly what I needed to know...even the depth of the lots and elec gate.
I'm also thinking 6ft....maybe that will keep some of the critters out

Were all 3.3 acres fenced in? Sounds like a bit less if it was 660 deep unless it was wider. $16,000 for all that you mentioned including labor and a sliding gate was a very fair price. Sounds like you did very well.

You're welcome but perhaps you need to decide what critters you want to keep out. A deer can jump a 6' fence, a bear will climb over it and do damage, gopher tortoise will dig/burrow under it, squirrels will climb over and some local kids will view it as a challenge. It would do a fair job of keeping dogs, rabbits, coyotes and armadillo's out.
I only did that fence because the cash buyers of the house I built on it wanted it. Good fences make good neighbors.
