We are a family of 5 (we are in our mid 30's with a 13, 4, and 5 year old). Currently we live in Springtown, which is a small country community about 20 miles outside of town.

That is kinda what we are looking to do around Nashville. Don't want to be "in the City" but within 10-20 miles of it. I am a Commercial Plumber and a Preacher, and my Wife works for the Bank, so she should just be able to transfer.

We would like to have around 1 acre of land and a house around $150K or less.

I see that the east side of Nash seems to be the recommendation, but that seems to be more for the "City" living.

What about the rural areas around Nash? Keeping in mind that 2 kids will be in elementary and one in middle school.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You should be able to find something to fit your needs here...although at $150,000 you might have to move out a little further out or sacrifice on home size.

I'd try looking in Rutherford County first. There are lots of rural patches around Murfreesboro and Smyrna. Certainly enough to find 1 acre and be convenient to other city centers and the $150,000 pricetag might be do-able there. Robertson County (Greenbriar, White House, Ridgetop, Springfield) is another option. It is a rural area but still very convenient to "the city". Plenty of land up there too...but the schools aren't as good as other areas seem to be. You might also look in Wilson County (Lebanon) and Cheatham County. Finally, there are rural parts of Davidson County (Nashville) that could fit your budget...check out the Joelton/Whites Creek areas of Davidson Co.

Try looking at www.realtracs.com for real estate listings that fit your criteria. It's probably the best real estate website for middle TN.

Good luck and welcome to the area.

Well, after further research, I think we have decided on the Oak Ridge, TN area.
