How safe is the area? Would I be safe taking my 2 year old alone? Once the weather gets a little warmer, I want to take our daughter during the day.

I didn't mind driving to Memphis Zoo alone, but usually didn't just because. Our last trip was me, my sister and my daughter. The surrounding area in Memphis wasn't the best but the Zoo wasn't bad.

It's totally fine. Nolensville Road is a very busy commercial highway, but it is an area you can drive through with no problem.
Tons of moms do it every day. I just went last week with my kids and had a blast.

The area around the zoo isn't the greatest, but it probably looks worse than it really is. It's not a ghetto. It's not, da hood. As wmsn said, it's a well-traveled highway. Just not a scenic one (except for the zoo.)

I'd say the zoo itself is very, very safe. Lots of families, young children, and on any given day, a dozen school buses.

Absolutely what wmsn and nashvols said. It's extremely safe at the zoo. I've gone many times with my nieces and nephews and plan to take my daughter there this summer.

Buy a membership. It is worth it. Somedays we just go for the playground at the zoo.

That playground is huge. I took my niece there and she ran herself tired...and that's hard to do.

We're signed up for the family membership that allows us to bring a guest for free, which is great for the summer break. My daughter has no trouble finding a friend to go to the zoo, and they wander around looking at the animals while the missus and our special-needs son hit the playground. All this happens while I'm working, but I'm only slightly miffed.

The zoo is wonderful. I dont shop or go out to eat in that area, but I do go to the zoo. We go every week and the membership is totally worth it. I always feel safe at the zoo. It's about a mile off the main road so there is no foot traffic from people on Nolensville Rd.
