Hello,

I am considering moving to Nashville in a few short months and would like some help on find a place to rent. Coming from the west coast, I sure hope that rent will be much cheaper than what I pay as of now. What areas of Nashville should I look into, and specifically, what buildings? $1300/month would probably be the most I would go.

And what sort of amenities do you want?

Unless you are in SF paying current market rates, I think you will be unpleasantly surprised.

I am currently living in Los Angeles, and my rent is absolutely ridiculous. With that being said, I am in the process of searching for jobs in both Nashville and the other city that I am interested in moving to. I have heard good things about the Gulch, Hillsboro, Germantown, and 12 South. I have been to Nashville many times and have fallen in love with it over the years. I'd like to be able to live somewhere in the city limits, but as for where, I am open to the endless possibilities that your great city offers.

You'll be able to find something you like. You may not be anticipating how much rent actually costs here (everyone assumes it's cheaper than it is) but for $1200-$1400 you'll find things you can be on board with if you're living alone. As far as the "city limits", they're wide reaching and there are plenty of places you'd likely have zero interest in. The places you're looking are good. I know a couple people I work with who live in the Stahlman Building downtown on 2nd and Union and they really like it (I'm 30, they're in their 20s). A lot of people flock to East Nashville these days but it's an older, gentrifying area with mostly homes instead of apartments. You might find places you like over near Vanderbilt on/around West End and Elliston Place in addition to where you're looking currently.

What areas or specific buildings do you recommend?

What area do you think it would be the easiest to meet people? Also, are there plenty of non-smoking restaurants/bars in Nashville?

Drake, there have been a lot of apartments built in East Nashville in the last few years. They continue to build more.

I doubt you'd find anything in the Gulch that cheap.
